Your laptop, phone and headphones already do more than you might think. Instead of buying a whole “studio,” fill only the roles your desk is missing: a microphone for voice, a small light for video, and support for the phone or light. That keeps the setup understandable—and keeps a $47.44 microphone from somehow becoming a $1,000 shopping spree.

This guide uses selected AliExpress listing snapshots checked October 19, 2026. The prices are useful planning figures, not same-cart checkout quotes. Existing computer, phone, desk, headphones and a suitable charging source and cable for the UA20 are assumed.

Affiliate disclosure: PMCODE may earn from qualifying purchases made through the shopping links below. We did not conduct hands-on, laboratory, assembly or sound/light testing. Product descriptions and compatibility notes are based on the supplied manufacturer, distributor and selected-listing information.

Start with the role you actually need

For voiceover, the simplest route is the PD100X with its selected desktop stand. USB-C to a compatible computer is enough to record. If you want the PD200X instead, treat it as an alternative microphone path, not an addition. Its selected package includes a shock mount but no boom arm or tabletop stand, so the LS26 becomes the priced support option.

For desk video, add the UA20 only if window light is not doing the job. Add the TT43 II when you need the light off the desktop, and use the MT91 to position an existing phone. The phone and laptop record separately: clap once, then sync the two files in editing. This is not an automatic phone-to-laptop livestream connection.

Microphone decision: PD100X or PD200X?

MAONO PD100X: the straightforward starter

The $47.44 PD100X is the cleanest first purchase when you want to place a microphone on the desk and record. It is a dynamic cardioid microphone—not a condenser—using USB-C or XLR. The selected variant includes the desktop stand and cable. USB provides the practical starter path, with listed USB 24-bit/48kHz operation, 3.5mm monitoring, mute and gain/monitor controls.

The alternative analog path is different: XLR requires a suitable separate recording interface or preamp and an XLR cable. XLR does not have a standalone digital sample rate. Do not assume USB controls or software apply while using XLR-only mode. The selected listing does not promise headphones, an interface, boom arm or XLR cable.

See the PD100X product guide for the selected desktop-stand package.

For a desk voiceover setup, connect the microphone directly to the compatible computer, choose it as the recording source, and keep the included stand on a stable surface. A related PMCODE guide covers budget audio upgrades under $100.

MAONO PD200X: an alternative mounting path

The $88.01 PD200X is also dynamic cardioid, with USB-C/XLR, USB 24-bit/48kHz operation, 3.5mm headphone monitoring, mute and a control knob. Its selected standard package includes the microphone, shock mount, 5/8-to-3/8 adapter and USB cable. It does not include the PD200XS boom-arm bundle, a table stand, boom arm, XLR cable, interface or headphones.

The PD200X product guide explains its standard package; the boom-arm bundle is a different selection.

There is no measured claim here that it sounds better than the PD100X. Choose it because you prefer its package and intend to mount it. The listed PD200X offer is one-time and account-specific; do not assume a second matching offer.

Mounting the microphones: where LS26 fits

Ulanzi LS26 low-profile microphone arm and desk clamp; example microphone not included
Seller listing image: LS26 arm with illustrative microphone and computer setup; those devices are not included.

The optional $57.27 LS26 is the support purchase for the PD200X path if you do not already own a compatible mount. Regional distributor information lists a 480mm reach, 2kg rated load and 3/8- and 5/8-inch adapters. The selected compatibility route is listing/manufacturer-backed, not physically assembled or tested here. Its padded clamp is not proof of a maximum desk thickness: check your desk edge, apron, clearance and total cable-and-mount load. The arm can still transmit desk vibration; it does not automatically eliminate it.

With the PD100X, the included desktop stand means no LS26 is needed. The PD200X plus LS26 totals $145.28, or $97.84 more than the PD100X starter.

Useful light setup—and separate floor support

Start with a window. It is free, and moving your desk or turning slightly toward it may be enough. If you need a compact adjustable source, the $49.09 UA20 is one light with 20W bi-color white output from 2700–6500K—not RGB. It has an internal 18Wh battery and USB-C charging. The manufacturer’s roughly 55-minute full-output figure is not a PMCODE measurement.

Our UA20 product guide covers the one-light option.

The selected package confirms one UA20 and a storage bag. It does not promise a tall stand or AC adapter. Match an existing suitable charging source and cable to the marked input; the exact input profile, cable inventory and continuous USB operation while charging are unresolved. The budget example uses a charged internal battery. Do not read 20W as a promise of USB draw, full-day runtime or room-wide illumination.

Seller’s selected TT43 II packing-list photograph shows the separate tilt head; this stand is not part of the UA20 package.

The separate $72.24 TT43 II is a floor stand for the UA20, not a phone stand in the calculated setup. The selected seller photo shows a tilt head, and the 1/4-inch head-plate thread matches the UA20 socket according to the supplied information. Keep the stand low and stable beside the desk, secure the plate and avoid overhead rigging. Its 4kg stand rating is not a guarantee for every offset load or head angle; keep the light well within the relevant head limit.

Do not confuse TT43 II’s 47–210cm and 4kg figures with the original TT43’s 190cm and 6kg description.

Phone positioning with the MT91

The $28.02 MT91 is a compact tabletop tripod for an existing phone or small camera. Manufacturer information describes about 26.5cm height, a ball head, 1/4-inch quick-release system and a 1.3kg manufacturer-rated load. It is not a tall floor stand or selfie stick.

The seller-selected packing photograph shows a phone clamp, remote, tripod and action-camera adapter. However, the manufacturer’s included-items information and FAQ conflict about whether every relevant package includes the clamp. Confirm the supplied clamp and your phone/case fit before ordering; no exact clamp width is established.

Place it on a stable tabletop, with the lens near eye level only when that position is genuinely stable. Do not stack heavy gear on it. If the phone records video while the USB microphone records to the laptop, clap at the beginning of both recordings and align the sound spike in editing. That is simple separate-device capture, not an automatic livestream or webcam connection. For livestreaming, use the existing laptop webcam or a separately configured compatible video workflow.

Accessories to skip for this first pass

Use existing wired headphones for monitoring. Connect the USB microphone directly to the computer first rather than adding a hub, controller or other intermediary without a demonstrated need. The Fosi SK02 is a playback headphone DAC/amplifier, not an XLR recording interface, so it does not solve the PD200X’s analog requirement.

The practical missing item for XLR is a suitable recording interface or preamp plus an XLR cable. Neither microphone option promises those pieces in the selected packages.

Realistic budget examples

  • Voiceover starter: $47.44. PD100X with its included desk stand. Assumes a compatible computer and existing headphones if wanted.
  • Desk video with your phone: $196.79. PD100X, UA20, TT43 II and MT91. Assumes a phone that fits the supplied clamp, a compatible laptop and suitable UA20 charging source/cable.
  • PD200X plus LS26 audio alternative: $145.28. This replaces the PD100X path; it does not add a second microphone.
  • Desk video using PD200X plus LS26: $294.63. PD200X, LS26, UA20, TT43 II and MT91. This is an alternative build, not a duplicate-microphone bundle.

These totals add the selected item prices and $0.00 ordinary-shipping snapshots. They were not verified as a single-cart checkout. Applicable tax, import charges and other checkout costs are extra; coupons and coins are not deducted. Prices can move, and delivery is not guaranteed. If you lack the computer, phone, desk, headphones or suitable UA20 charging setup, your real budget may grow.

Simple setup sequence

  1. Choose one microphone path and confirm the exact variant before ordering.
  2. For USB recording, connect the microphone directly to the compatible computer and select the correct recording input and headphone output.
  3. Open the recording app, start close to the microphone, speak slightly off-axis at a modest gain and record 20 seconds.
  4. Listen back through headphones. If the recording clips, reduce gain; if it is too quiet, move closer before adding equipment.
  5. Place the UA20 off to one side rather than directly behind the phone, then adjust light brightness/color temperature and the camera’s white balance. Window light is a valid no-cost alternative.
  6. Stabilize the MT91, phone and cables. Record a clap on phone and laptop when using separate-device capture, then sync in editing.
  7. Stop, review and save a short test before recording the full piece.

US buying, shipping, tax and returns checks

Before paying, re-check the seller-selected variant, shipping line, delivery window and package photograph. Listing snapshots change. For general delivery considerations, see PMCODE’s AliExpress shipping-to-the-US guide. Review possible checkout additions in the additional-charges guide, and keep taxes, imports and other applicable charges outside these arithmetic totals.

For return timing, evidence and seller-platform steps, consult PMCODE’s US returns and refunds guide. Photograph the package and selected variant when it arrives, especially for the MT91 clamp, UA20 charging details, LS26 adapters and TT43 II head. Delivery estimates are not guarantees, and a product listing is not a substitute for confirming your own desk, phone, case, cable or charger fit.

Selection notes and quick FAQ

We chose six complementary roles from the published PMCODE catalogue and candidate pool, not six things everyone must buy. We checked original affiliate destinations, selected options and Texas shipping, and cross-checked documented connections. Thread compatibility is not an assembly test; seller photographs do not independently establish performance.

Is either microphone a condenser?

No. Both the PD100X and PD200X are dynamic cardioid microphones. The listing’s erroneous AI overview should not change that distinction.

Can I record over USB without an interface?

Yes, USB to a compatible computer is the starter route. XLR is an analog path that needs a suitable separate interface or preamp and an XLR cable.

Does the UA20 include a stand or AC adapter?

The selected essential package confirms one light and a storage bag. A tall stand and external AC adapter are not promised. Use a suitable existing charging source and cable matched to the marked input.

Can the MT91 make my phone a laptop webcam automatically?

No. It is physical phone support. Phone video and laptop USB-mic audio can be captured separately and synced with a clap. Livestreaming requires an existing laptop webcam or a separately configured compatible workflow.

Should I buy both microphones?

No. The PD100X and PD200X are alternatives in these budgets. Pick the PD100X for the included desk stand, or the PD200X plus a compatible support path if that mounting arrangement suits your desk.
