ANBERNIC’s next folding handheld has a clear audience: players who miss having two game screens that were actually designed to sit together. Revealed in an official October 9 announcement, the RG DDS combines a Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 processor with differently proportioned displays that echo the Nintendo 3DS. By October 18, ANBERNIC’s store also had a preorder listing, with shipping scheduled to begin gradually on December 10, 2026.

Two screens with a purpose
The upper IPS panel measures approximately 4.7 inches, with a 1200 × 720 resolution and a 5:3 aspect ratio. Below it sits a roughly 4-inch, 960 × 720 IPS screen in 4:3. ANBERNIC specifies 300 pixels per inch and 500-nit brightness for both, alongside a retractable stylus stored inside the shell.
Those different shapes are the interesting part. A dual-screen game can keep its main view above and its map, inventory or touch controls below, instead of squeezing both into one widescreen rectangle. ANBERNIC says the panels preserve the corresponding 3DS image proportions at three times the width and height in pixels. That is a scaling relationship, not a claim about frame rates.
There is no glasses-free 3D display here, as The Verge’s October 14 report notes. The appeal is the two-screen arrangement and familiar folding format.
Snapdragon hardware, with performance still to prove
The manufacturer confirms Snapdragon G2 Gen 2, active fan cooling and a 6,000mAh battery. Two analog sticks flank the lower screen with the D-pad and face buttons, while a redesigned control center groups screen, cooling and performance settings together.
The current official specification sheet adds Android 16, 8GB/128GB and 12GB/256GB configurations, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, microSD expansion up to 2TB and 27W charging. Colors are Basalt Black, Glacier White and Phantom Blue.
ANBERNIC has shown emulation in its own demonstration video. That is an early look at selected games, not an independent compatibility test. PMCODE has not tested the RG DDS. Sustained frame rates, demanding scenes, battery life, fan noise and emulator setup still need scrutiny before anyone can call it a dependable 3DS replacement.
RG DDS, RG DS and RG DS Plus are different machines
The extra letter matters. According to ANBERNIC’s comparison, the older RG DS uses an RK3568 processor, 3GB of RAM and two 4-inch, 640 × 480 screens. Its Android configuration runs Android 14.
The RG DS Plus keeps the RK3568 but switches to Linux and 1GB of RAM, with two larger 4.3-inch, 1024 × 768 panels and a single left analog stick. The Snapdragon-powered DDS therefore changes the platform and screen proportions, rather than simply enlarging the DS Plus.
PMCODE’s ANBERNIC RG DS product page covers that separate, currently available older model. It is not an RG DDS listing, and its price and delivery details do not apply to the new device.
Price, preorder status and the US question
Checked October 18, ANBERNIC’s official store showed $284.99 for the selected China-shipped, Glacier White, 8GB/128GB configuration without an SD card. The page labels RG DDS as a preorder and says units will ship gradually starting December 10, 2026. That is the manufacturer’s dispatch schedule, not a guaranteed arrival date.
PMCODE has not verified checkout to a US address, a delivered US total or US warehouse stock. Shipping charges, taxes and availability for a particular address remain buying checks. For 3DS fans, the display layout makes this one to watch; independent testing will determine how well the software matches the hardware idea.
