Practical limitations
There is no adjustable aperture and no manual focus ring, so exposure and depth-of-field choices are more limited than with a conventional interchangeable-aperture lens. Available light, shutter speed and ISO remain important. Do not assume that the lens provides optical stabilization or weather sealing. External screw-in filters are not supported.
On a Sony APS-C body, the angle of view becomes narrower, approximately equivalent to 42mm using a 1.5x crop; the physical focal length does not change. The manufacturer also notes that not all Sony NEX bodies are compatible, so the exact camera model and firmware should be checked.
Buying checks
- Confirm the selected mount is Sony E/FE, not Nikon Z or Fuji XF.
- Confirm the selected finish is black.
- Check camera-body and firmware compatibility, especially for Sony NEX cameras.
- Make sure the sliding front cover is open before attempting autofocus.
- Check the seller’s stated kit contents; camera bodies and other pictured lenses are not included.
